Hluhluwe National Park South Africa

Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park, formerly Hluhluwe–Umfolozi Game Reserve, is the oldest officially designated nature reserve in Africa. Covering 960 km² (96,000 ha) of hilly terrain about 280 kilometres north of Durban in central Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, it is renowned for its rich wildlife and strong conservation work. It is the only state-run park in KwaZulu-Natal where all of the Big Five can be seen. Thanks to sustained conservation efforts, the park now supports the world’s largest population of white rhino. However, both the rhinos and the park’s wilderness are under threat from plans for an open-cast coal mine on its border, a proposal that a growing coalition of organisations is actively opposing.
